Set in São Paulo at the time of the presidential victory of Lula, the film follows the lives of some of the 300,000 moped drivers who deliver everything from pizzas to life-saving medicines. Ever-present and unavoidable, both praised and reviled, they serve as a barometer of dramatic changes in Brazil’s largest city.

Meanwhile the Brazilians celebrate the winner of the last presidential elections “Lula” the MOTOBOY Ratinho (Weasel) has lost his only opportunity of surviving, his bike. The traffic jam and increasing unemployment make the motorcycle delivery a very popular job among youngsters. The number of motorcycle couriers are about 300.000 only in São Paulo. The documentary flows among the testimonies of other MOTOBOYS and slowly become one only voice, the dreams, fears, the drama and the hopes of them all, of we all.

Mentre a San Paolo si festeggia la vittoria elettorale di Lula, il motoboy Ratinho perde la sua unica opportunità di sopravvivenza. Traffico intenso e crescente disoccupazione hanno trasformato il  lavoro delle consegne in moto nell’occupazione più diffusa tra i giovani paulistani: solo nella città di São Paulo circolano oltre 300.000 motoboys. La storia di Ratinho – 22 anni, figlia, padre, madre a carico, che sogno di entrare in una multinazionale  e intanto paga le rate per una tomba di proprietà – scorre tra le testimonianze degli altri motoboys e diventa  poco a poco  i sogni, le paure, il dramma, le speranze di tutti gli altri.

MOTOBOY directors’ notes

In a very quick editing and in a continuous change of angle of observation and point of view we watch the motoboys faces and voices alternating with people of the “other side of the road” defining them “junkies, crazy, border lines, suburbans”. They call them “mad dogs” and for all them the motorcycle is not only a job but everything, their way of living, talking, dressing, their hope for a better life.
